The North Coast

We start at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, one of the most important landmarks of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with its views of the famous Las Canteras beach making it an idyllic spot to begin the route.
Soon, we enter the bay that borders the city, where flat terrain and gentle climbs lead us to the heart of the north coast. After riding about 12 kilometers, the first challenging climb begins, ascending to the valley of Moya, with gradients around 8% for approximately 6 kilometers. The views here are stunning: vast banana plantations contrast beautifully with the deep blue sea, making the effort of the climb truly worthwhile.
After a series of ups and downs through the Azuaje valley, we reach the summit of Buenlugar and then head towards the renowned city of Arucas. It is famous mainly for its impressive San Juan Bautista church, known as “The Cathedral of Arucas.” Arucas is an excellent spot to stop for a coffee in one of the lovely streets of the old town, perfect for recharging before continuing the ride.
The final part of the route is a breathtaking descent to the neighborhood of Tinoca, from where only 3 kilometers along the coastal road separate us from the end of our journey.
This route along the northern side of the island is highly recommended if you want to experience one of the most spectacular and lesser-known areas of Gran Canaria. Its wide and winding roads are a cyclist’s paradise for those who want to savor every kilometer on the bike.
